Mentioning the name of the famous French designer Coco Chanel, two things immediately come to mind-a little black dress and Chanel perfume. For decades, fashion houses and the creation of perfumes have gone hand in hand; every fashion house and designer has their own perfume collection. But it was Chanel who started this tradition. Well, celebrities are happy to collaborate with famous perfume creators and unveil their special fragrances.

But back to Chanel - why the fragrance no. 5 is still one of the most famous scents in the world, and what makes it so special? And what's going on in the perfume world? How to smell right? For everything in a row - in the following article!

Types of perfume

All fragrances available for purchase are divided into three groups depending on the intensity and persistence of the aroma. They can be very persistent and strong or very light and imperceptible.

Perfume - The strongest and most durable aroma. The essence of perfume Perfumes of this strength are rarely available for purchase, because not every woman would like to adorn herself with a strong scent that suppresses not only the scent of the body itself, but also the scents of food and all others.

Eau de Parfum (EDP) -Perfume water. It has a more diverse scent. -lasting and quite strong scent, which, in most cases, will not lose its intensity throughout the day.

Eau de Toilette (EDT) is an abbreviation for Eau de Toilette. The lightest scent. gentle and airy aroma. This type of perfume is popular with users because of its lightness. Although such scents will have to be restored during the day, it is up to each individual to adjust how strongly the scent will be felt in which part of the day. This control is especially useful if your daily schedule is changing.

How to use perfume?

There are two ways to use perfume - spray into the air or spray on the body. However, if you buy an EDP bottle that does not have a nebulizer at all, you will not be able to spray such perfumes on your hair and clothes.

  • Spraying in the air: this way, the whole cloud of perfume is sprayed upwards and the user goes to the bottom of it, allowing the drops of perfume to settle all over the body. Hair is also perfumed in this way.

  • spraying on certain parts of the body. Parisians, the masters of the perfume world, believe that perfumes should be sprayed on 3 parts of the body: behind the ears, so that the smell can be felt by the person you greet, giving classic Parisian kisses on both cheeks; on the wrists, so that the smell accompanies every movement; and behind the knees, so that when walking in a skirt around the city, this smell vibrates in the air near the people who enjoy a day in outdoor cafes.

However, it is important to remember that spray perfumes must not be rubbed - they are already applied to the warmest parts of the body, and additional rubbing can damage the scent molecules and the aroma can change.

There is no right or wrong way to spray perfume. But another piece of advice from Parisians - perfumes should not be sprayed on clothes, they should be sprayed on the body, so that when the clothes are dropped, they will not fall off the expensive aroma. Especially if it was Chanel No. 5.

How has this Chanel perfume become so legendary?

Chanel perfume-history

The revolution in the world of perfumes took place as early as the twenties of the twentieth century, when in 1921, the fashion house launched its first perfume.

Ideas

Coco Chanel was looking for a perfume as special as the woman herself. She herself claimed to have tried to find women's perfumes that had a feminine scent. Chanel considered perfumes to be no less important than, for example, clothing. She also expressed the opinion that a woman should use perfume on the parts of her body where she would like to be kissed. The list of potential kissing places is quite extensive: the inside of the knee joints, thighs, wrists, elbows, navel, sacches, shoulders, neck, back of the neck, and behind the ears.

Chanel No. 5 was the first perfume to depart from the usual canon in that each perfume represents the aroma of one flower or plant.

Scent creator

Coco Chanel entrusted the creation of her iconic perfume to perfume master Ernest Beaux. In search of inspiration, Ernest even went to the Arctic Circle, where he was captivated by the clear air currents from the cold northern lakes.

The artist used more than 80 different scents to create the scent. The result is an abstract, mysterious aroma that radiates a wealth of extravagant floral motifs. The boiler also uses aldehydes (synthetic natural fragrance equivalents) in an innovative way, which completely changes the way aromas are created. As a result of these aldehydes, Chanel perfumes take on an additional dimension, which makes them even more unusual, as well as completely eliminates the possibility of identifying the ingredients used by simply smelling them. It's a complete, complete bouquet.

  • Name

Chanel perfume stood out among others with its name. The name was simply "number 5." No more dreamy or romantic names. And that one digit was enough to make all the other types of perfumes on the market look old-fashioned and out of date.

The name of the iconic fragrance is quite simple: Chanel liked exactly the fifth fragrance of Bouvé. Five was also Chanel's lucky number.

  • Vial

Also, for the first time, the perfume was offered for purchase in a simple, laconic bottle. No stuff, no embellishment. Its cork is in the form of a cut diamond and is also the only decoration on the vial.

Chanel's perfume is becoming an icon of the 20th century. It is the best-selling perfume in the world to this day, and it has no similar aroma.

What made this perfume a legend?

An unusual fragrance that deviated from the canon of flowers and offered something unprecedented.

Chanel's own personality: she believed that women deserved something special and unique.

Iconic name-simplicity never seen before in the age of luxury-No. 5.

Laconic packaging—the simple bottle further emphasized the importance of the aroma.

The first perfumes were advertised during the Super Cup break.

At the end of the war, in 1945, American soldiers bought this perfume to take home to their wives.

Two of the fragrance ingredients are so rare (and grown in only one region of France) that Chanel signed contracts with local growers and then began cultivating her rose fields to produce the necessary fragrance concentrate.

Chanel perfumes are known all over the world. From Paris to Tokyo, from Riga to Rome, they are known everywhere, as well as used everywhere. Today, this particular fragrance of Chanel perfume is recognized as quite heavy and strong, but the fashion house has hundreds of different fragrances to offer for all tastes. Each fragrance is available in a laconic package, with a carefully thought-out scent bouquet, a lasting aroma, and an unforgettable scent.
